Hello everyone! Welcome to another author spotlight! These will be posts where I discuss and showcase, predominantly people of color, their writing talents, and published works. So without further ado let’s get on with the Author Spotlight!
Meet the Author!

Vanessa Robinson is an Author, Writer, Content Writer, and aspiring screenwriter. Out of her many talents, Vanessa specializes in all elements of creative writing. Her passion is creating controversial characters and plots, which prompted her to write her debut novel, Her Blood.
What and when started your love for writing?
My love for writing started when I was a little girl. I loved music and books. Music was my outlet and I started writing my own songs, then poetry and then short stories. I used to tell my grandmother I wanted to be a journalist until I discovered the word I was looking for was actually called an Author. I wanted to create my own books, not like anyone else.s Once I started writing I couldn’t live without it, I fell in love with words and they can be manipulated.

Of all of the book genres, what drew you to write about yours?
I loved reading thriller and mystery books, I would break them down and figure out the plot and how the author wrote it. I used to think to myself “I want to write books and create my own worlds and mysteries.” If I had to check a box off it would be the Psychological Thriller Genre nevertheless I like mixing Genres. I just write and figure out what the category is after the book is done, but I despise putting my books in a box.
If you could meet your favorite author who would it be and why?
I have a few favorite authors. I fell in love with Eric J. Dickey’s writing style, I swear he writes the way I think. EJD is amazing with setting and tone, he is poetic. Terry Mcmillian is a great story-teller who dives deep into the creation of her characters, the world that she creates is so real, in fact, I believe her characters exist somewhere. I have read the majority of their books more than once. I think if I met them I would fall the hell out.
What makes your book(s)/writing special?

My books are special because they are unpredictable. I like to create twisted plots that will makes a reader want to keep turning the page. I let each of my characters tell their story and recount events from their own point of view and with each experience, it’s different, like a butterfly effect. Readers get to see why the characters justify their actions, there is a back story on every character’s life experiences and decisions that affected their future and the ones around them.
So…what are you working on now?

“Right now I’m working on Her Blood O’ Shea Vol 2 of Her Blood Series. My characters aren’t ready to say goodbye yet. I wanted each book in the series to be able to stand alone but still connected to the first book. I’m working on a book of short stories for 2021 and a few other projects. I want to create an engaging journal like I had growing up.”
