Amour Author Spotlight pink book and background

Welcome to Amour Books Event on Win’s Books! Amour Books is a Valentine’s Day Week-long event hosted by Winnie Tataw that spotlights romance books and stories, romance authors, and more! Today’s posts are an author interview with the amazing author, Porsha Deun. So, without further ado, let’s get on with the spotlight!

About the Author:

Author Porsha Deun Headshot

Born and raised in Flint, MI, Porsha Deun (pronounced like Dion) began to take her writing seriously in 2015. She started with Love Lost while unemployed after graduating from Davenport University with a B.B.A. in Accounting. Three years and two accounting jobs later, her debut novel, Love Lost, was published. Since then, she’s continued writing, publishing at least one book per year. Though romance is her first love, she has a passion for other genres, including fantasy and children’s books.

Deun’s first novel, Love Lost, was nominated for an AAMBC 2019 Urban Fiction of the Year Award and her second novel, Love Lost Forever was a finalist for Romance Slam Jam’s 2020 Emma Award.

What and when started your love for writing?

I loved writing as a kid. I would (and still do) create stories in my head with the people I know and see on television and in movies, making a bigger deal of what they were actually going through. However, I never thought of it as something I could do as a career. If I had, I would have studies creative writing in college instead of accounting.

Of all of the book genres, what drew you to write about yours?

I write multiple genres. I’m not one who believes in limiting how and what I am inspired by, thus I do not limit how I express that inspiration. This is why I have a children’s book, am working on the second children’s book, as well as a fantasy. When it comes to reading, I gravitate to the romance genre, hence why most of my books are in that genre.

What does Valentine’s Day mean to you?

Another day, lol. Outside of Christmas, I don’t really celebrate holidays like that. I only celebrate the spirit of Christmas now because of my niece and nephew. It is not a religious thing; I just see every day as another day to either get things done or relax.

What’s your favorite romance cliche or trope?

Fast falling at first sight and second chance loves. There is something about instantly knowing that that person right there is the person for you on some sort of spiritual level without knowing much about them that just gets me going. Especially when there is a little bit of resistance of that feeling.

If you could meet your favorite author, who would it be and why?

My two most favorite authors are now ancestors, so it would be a very different experience meeting them! If I could have, it would’ve been Donald Goines and Eric Jerome Dickey. Their respective writings capture me no matter how many times I’ve read them and are great influences on me as a writing today.

What makes your book(s) special?

How does one answer this question without sounding like they are full of themselves? Lol. I’ve been told (yes, I’m using the words of a TikTok book reviewer who has read a few of my books) I have a unique way of weaving a story and making things or events that would seem as impossible possible.

So… what are you working on now?

I am working on my second children’s book, Princes Can Do Anything, a flash fiction collection, a Medusa retelling, a lesbian romance, a sci-fi romance, and a spin on a classic book that has a couple movie adaptions (I’m not ready to reveal the name of it yet).

It was great getting to know Porsha and her children’s books are so cute! And so many projects, that’s amazing! I wish you the best of luck. I love that most of the romance authors I’m interviewing aren’t big fans of Valentine’s Day. If you would like to get in contact or connect with Author Porsha Deun, you can through:
