Meet the Author

Dr. Christie Black-Murrell is a Columbus Ga native who loves to speak life through the written and spoken word. She uses her writing to inspire and speak positive words into the world. Dr. Black-Murrell is a proud graduate of Morris Brown College in Atlanta Ga and an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. She has written ten-plus books but most recently she released a Children’s Book entitled, Do You Know? Powerful words of praise from parent to child. She is also a counselor, speaker, mom of two, and devoted wife.

What and when started your love for writing?

As a child I had a huge imagination and loved to make up, write, and read stories. I found my peace initially in journaling, writing poetry, and creating places and people I never meet. Later, I found the benefit for other specifically in my poetry as a therapeutic tool.

Of all of the book genres, what drew you to write about yours?

I have literally been all over the grammit when it comes to writing. I have poetry books, fiction, and now Childrens literature. I think being a School Counselor and a mom guided me towards Childrens literature. I have always felt that my purpose o. Earth is to speak life to young people through the words I say and those I write. In my books that’s exactly what I do by using words to build up specifically affirmations. In addition, I plan to target the areas I see daily in my writings in a simplistic way to young readers.

What is your favorite part of the Holiday season?

I love all holidays especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. Mostly, because I love family time and hearing the stories from my elders. The giggles of the littles and all delicious food. It also gives us a time to stop and be thankful for all the blessing God has given us.

What is your favorite part to write of a story?

My favorite part to write is a tough one but I guess when its finished because now I can share my gift with the World.

If you could meet your favorite author who would it be and why?

I did have the opportunity to meet my favorite author before she passed away, Dr Maya Angelou. She was an amazing writer, story teller, and so well lived. She spoke from her heart and poured out such priceless nuggets I will forever be grateful for that moment on Auburn University campus. I even find myself going back and listening to her sometimes to encourage new stories in me.

What makes your book(s)/writing special?

I think that my writing is special because in a world where people are being so mean, so heartless, and sometimes even inhumane my books give life. My books speak of topics that inspire, build up, teach, and encourage. On top of that, they speak to the youngest of readers to catch them and sow seeds of encouragement early in life.

So…what are you working on now?

I have a companion pack of books of positive affirmations that will release Dec 10th. This will include a concept book, coloring book, and a journal all entitled Do You Know? These books foster and encourage self-esteem through the use of positive affirmations. In addition, I have a book teaching diversity through friendship that is set to release at the end of January early Feb.
