Becoming a mother shifted her dreams of becoming a journalist to a more conservative role in Corporate.Having worked in corporate America, it would be the “empty nest” feeling that she would rediscover her gifts, passion, and love for storytelling by launching her first Blog titled Sistah’s Place2 and then Sistah’s Place Entertainment where she would grow that platform showcasing indie artists in film, theater, literary, and television.Â
What and when started your love for writing?
I believe my love for writing started in 3rd grade. We had a writing assignment due I fell in love with writing my sophomore year of high school in Mrs. Cooper’s Literature class about twenty years ago. I had to write my first short story and she saw a talent in me that I had not recognized yet. I just loved writing in my journal and using my imagination in storytelling. Unfortunately, my parents did not think back then writers could make any money so undergraduate I had to change my major from journalism to Accounting.

Of all of the book genres, what drew you to write about yours?
Actually, this latest book series Lucy’s Mason I stumbled into this genre because of the message that need to be received in New Adult Fiction. I wrote my first book Deceitful Secrets in fiction Romance because I love reading romance books that are drama, thrillers, suspenseful, and pure love stories.
If you could meet your favorite author, who would it be and why?
What makes my writing and books different is that I give real life experiences to stir the conversations at home with our young adults and women of all ages who can relate to Domestic Abuse, low self-esteem, low self-worth, family secrets, faith, forgiveness, trust, and real relationship issues that force us to keep having the conversations so that we break the generational curses.
If you could meet your favorite author, who would it be and why?
Okay, I have more than one. However, one of my many favorite authors is Kimberla Lawson Roby. I would love to meet her in person because she is an amazing storyteller, motivator, and great teacher. I also would have loved to meet Toni Morrison because she is one of the greatest writers of all time. She would have blessed my spirit and to pick her brain for being successful in this industry would have been golden for me.
What does your writing process look like?

I start out with flash cards and my storyboard to come up with potential title and plots- What, When, Who, and Resolution. Then I draft an outline in OneNote that I have fallen in love with using. There is a method to my madness. Create my character sheet and setting that allows me to sit down to figure out each unique thing about my characters so that I can bring them to life. I will listen to music to relax and then watch a one or two movies that matches the plot I created that will help me to get clarity on my ideas that floating in my head that I need to get out on paper. Lastly, I free write (hand-write) my first draft on paper to allow my characters to take over to telling the story.
What makes your book(s)/writing special?
My book writing is special because it’s unique to me. It’s not copying how another author writes but it’s how I bring my muse to life.
So…what are you working on now?
I have a few things that I am working on- I am submitting Lucy’s Faith in the last step of editing (proofreading) before sending to be formatted. I just started the second draft of Lucy’s Heart to be released in August 2021. Re-working the second book in the novella series Deceitful Secrets2- Truth and Lies anticipated to be out late fall 2021. I am a busy bee with lots of new stories to tell.
