Hello everyone! Welcome to another Amour Books Author Spotlight! These will be posts where I discuss and showcase, authors and their writing talents and published works. So without further ado let’s get on with the Author Spotlight!

Meet the Author

Jes Smyth is a writer at heart, a poet by accident, and the author of contemporary women’s fiction. With a background in psychology, and a lifetime stuck in her own head, Jes uniquely explores the often misunderstood emotions of change and growth in her debut Time for Once.

What and when started your love for writing?

“My love for writing began when I was fourteen. At the time, I was obsessed with this alternative rock band and began writing fan fiction. I know, so nerdy! But I loved it and even had a few readers through AOL. The stories were uploaded onto a website that no longer exists, unfortunately, but the notebooks I wrote the stories in are right behind me, on my bookshelf.”

Of all of the book genres, what drew you to write about yours?

“I write women’s fiction / contemporary fiction, which is the genre I read. I think that’s pretty commonplace for most authors; they write in the genre they read.”

What does Valentine’s day mean to you?

“It’s a day during a very cold month with basically no color and usually a lot of snow. I appreciate the pops of red and the chocolate candies, but other than that, it’s just another winter day. Which is an odd response for someone that has romance woven into her stories, but there you have it!”

What’s your favorite romance cliche or trope?

“I enjoy second-chance and slow-burn romances.”

If you could meet your favorite author, who would it be and why?

“Rebecca Serle is a favorite author of mine. I enjoy her writing style and think she’s leveraged her success remarkably well.”

What makes your book(s) special?

Time for Once is my first published novel! Aside from that, it’s a story that has surprised early readers with how deeply they related to it, especially those who don’t normally gravitate toward love stories.”

So…what are you working on now?

“I’m currently drafting a second book that features one of the characters in Time for Once and have plans to write a third!”
