Hello everyone! Welcome to another author spotlight! These will be posts where I discuss and showcase, predominantly women and people of color, their writing talents and published works. So without further ado let’s get on with the Author Spotlight!

Meet the Author!

Jessica Cage is an Award-Winning, and USA Today Bestselling Author. Born and raised in Chicago, IL, writing has always been a passion for her. Jessica decided to take a risk and unleash the plethora of characters and their crazy adventurous worlds that had previously existed only in her mind, into the realm of readers. She did this with hopes to inspire not only her son but herself. She invites the world to tag along on her journey and hopes to continue writing and bringing her signature Caged Fantasies to readers everywhere.

What and when started your love for writing?

My love for writing began when I was a little girl. I loved making up stories and would often tell my grandmother (an avid book nerd) my many imaginings. While reading one of the books from her massive library, I realized that I could do the same thing. I could write all the stories in my head down on paper like the authors of those books. My grandmother became the only one I trusted to read my stories for quite some time. Without her I don’t think I would be where I am today.

Of all of the book genres, what drew you to write about yours?

Fantasy has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. While my grandmother was the book nerd, my mother was the total blerd. She loved all things fantasy, sci-fi, and paranormal. It only seemed right that when I decided to write that I would blend the two loves together.

Who is your favorite book character in your stories to write about?

This question is always so difficult to answer. Its like being asked to choose a favorite child. Each of my characters stick with me in some way. I carry a bit of each of them with me. That being said, Rosie is my favorite!

How does being Black impact how and what you write?

My goal for writing is to create stories that feature powerful characters of color. Being black has impacted every bit of my writing. Its important to have stories in every genre that represent the black experience and I’m just happy to be able to put my stories out there and have people read and enjoy them.

What makes your book(s) special?

I would say it’s the characters. While I write fantasy and paranormal stories, the book are really character focused. You see the characters as they grow and change while navigating through some pretty difficult things. Readers have reached out to me with comments specifically about how relatable the characters are and how they connected to their journeys. This is my hope, that a reader will be able to see themselves reflected in the pages.

So…what are you working on now?

I am working on finishing up my Djinn Rebellion series which was originally supposed to be just one book and now is a seven book series. I also have several collaborative efforts moving forward and will be sharing details on those projects very soon!

I really enjoyed connecting with Jessica! She has dozens and dozens of books to read and share. Her love for books really shows through her writing. And man does she have some beautiful book covers! If you want to get in contact or connect with Jessica you can follow her on:
