Welcome to Winnie’s Writers Week!

Hello everyone! Welcome to another author spotlight! These will be posts where I discuss and showcase women and people of color, their writing talents, and their published works. All this week (Aug 24th-Aug 28th) I will be doing a week of author spotlights, showcasing some of the most unique authors and writers I’ve met in a while. So without further ado let’s get on with the Author Spotlight!

Meet the Author!

author Domo Jones

My name is Dominique Jones and having gone through medical challenges since the age of two, I felt like I had no purpose other than dr appts and surgeries. I want to share my story of how I decided to live despite what the world thinks I can’t do. Don’t let the disability fool you!

What and when started your love for writing?

I never even knew I could write. I knew I would always get high grades on my English papers but I definitely didn’t correlate that to having a passion to write. I guess I would say my grandma or Gana as we call her triggered the writer in me. She is an author of books, poems and stage plays so there would plenty of days I’d be sitting right next to her writing a poem or creating a character.

Of all of the book genres, what drew you to write about yours?

I chose an autobiography for my first book because I wanted my story to be told…my way. My life is a huge maze that I had to go through and I felt like my journey through my experiences can be that map quest in helping others.

If you could meet one of your favorite authors who would it be and why?

I’d probably say Oprah. Not only is she inspiring, she highlights and promotes different authors exposing authors and their books as well. I live that.

What makes your book(s) special?

Honestly, the book cover lol I know that sounds so minimal and probably unheard of but it’s true. The title in itself is very intriguing but the cover has such a story as to why I created it that way. Each polka dots represents a tumor ribbon that’s uncommon to the world. I wanted to highlight those that get overlooked by the popular ribbons showing they’re just as important. And the gray polka dots represent my tumor ribbon. Brain tumor.

So…what are you working on now?

Well I’m glad you asked. I don’t know how I’m even saying this but I’m working on my second book! I thought I would be done and checked off my bucket list but clearly not lol I’m also a new business owner. I launched a business called WalkingByDesign which customizes medical walkers and accessories so I’m trying to grow that as well.

Wow, what a way to start this special week, with such a strong and powerful person and author! Domo is truly a gem, and I highly advise you to check out her work. If you want to get in contact or connect with Domo you can through:
