Book Description:

Leisly Ann Roman’s “Living in Phases,” a bilingual debut poetry collection, highlights, or rather normalizes, the ups and the downs, the phases, we all go through in this lifetime. Pain and joy. Love and loss. Grief and strength. Doubt and pride. We live in polarities, we exist in countless phases. Embedded with themes ranging from mental health and cultural expectations, to healing and personal growth, and through the lens of the ever-changing phases of the moon, Roman invites you on a poetic exploration as she reflects upon her own past and current phases, and all that has been learned, or unlearned, as a result. It is true, the moon shines differently for us all – nevertheless, you are never alone in any of your phases.

About the Author:

Leisly Ann

Author Leisly Ann Roman

Leisly Ann is a Dominican-American writer and poet. Born and raised in New York City, and the eldest daughter of Dominican-immigrant parents, she has spent years immersed in the cultures of different lands, and has seen and experienced firsthand its effects. She is a proud member of the Latinx community as well as a passionate advocate for mental health, as can be seen in much of her writing. Living with a diagnosis of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and plagued by what is now a decade-long battle with disordered eating, she strives to use poetry to make space for topics such as cultural expectations, self-doubt, mental illness, trauma, resilience and healing. In her free time, you can (and most likely will) find Leisly reading another book from her ever-growing TBR list, exploring new cities and cultures through travel, binge-watching documentaries on Netflix, or immersing herself in nature. She currently resides in New York City with her mami, papi, hermanita, and sweet puppy Sky. You can connect with Leisly on Instagram at @_literaryhope, home for more original poetry and musings from the mind (and soul) of L.A.
