Snippet from the book:

Flame turns his attention back to me. “Get accustomed to this—” “Accustomed to what?” I question, genuinely confused. What is he going on about? “To me showing up unannounced.”

He puts air-quotation marks around “unannounced.” “Luna has promised her service to the southwest region of Earth, so you will see more of me.” My Dragon roars, and in a blink of an eye, I’m on my feet. My eyes have shifted into my Dragon reptilian form, and the room looks red. Flame is standing in a cocoon of water, unbothered.

Max approaches me but stares at Flame. “What is going on?”

“You placed her in servitude? You placed my mate in servitude?!” Smoke fills the room.

“Mate?!” Max and Vickie question.

“Calm down, I can’t talk to you when you’re in your overgrown lizard form,” Flame says. “Overgrown lizard?” I reply.

Another spew of fire fills the room.

“I’m your mate?” Luna’s voice… Her once brown and black hair is silver and gathered into a messy bun. She’s wearing a silver floral-accented dress with sheer black sleeves. My Dragon pauses and stands there, embarrassed.

“That explains the dreams, and, um, I… I guess you really are a Dragon.”

Her eyes travel around the room and mine follow. I notice the burnt curtains, scorched walls and floors. The head maid is definitely going to have my head if Luna doesn’t maim me first for not disclosing this piece of information. I was eventually going to tell her, but not like this.

“What happened, Luna?” Flame questions as he approaches her. Still upset, I come up behind him and step in between them, blocking his view of her.

“Starting now, you don’t talk to her—”

“Cairo!” my mate exclaims, trying to unsuccessfully move me out of the way. “That’s mature,” Flame comments dryly. “Whatever debt she may owe you, whatever contract she signed, I contest it.”

“I see, but unfortunately,” Flame sighs in a bored tone, “that is beyond my control. You need to request an audience with Ezekiel, but until then, Luna is still in service to us, and she has a job to do. Am I understood, Luna?”

He looks around me…
