Candice Lola writes fiction and essays that refuse to look away. Her debut, Women of Glass and Other Parables, turns rage, grief, and the messiness of being into stories with teeth. She believes every part of a person earns its place on the page — even the parts we’d rather keep in the dark.

Five questions, no hiding
01 — Where did Women of Glass come from?
Women of Glass is what happened when I gave my shadow self the pen. I stopped trying to write the version of me that was palatable, and I let the version that was angry and grieving and alive do the talking instead. The book is the result.

02 — What do you want readers to feel?
Seen. I want readers to recognize themselves in the parts of these women they were taught to be ashamed of. Every bit of you is there for a reason. The jealousy, the fury, the longing — none of it is a flaw to edit out. It’s information.

03 — Your advice for writers afraid of their own darkness?
Don’t hide your anger. Question it. Investigate it. Let it OUT. The page is the safest place there is to be furious. When you stop policing yourself, the writing stops being polite and starts being true — and true is the only thing worth reading.
