author spotlight

Hello everyone! These spotlights are for showcasing author’s (predominantly women and people of color) writing talents and published works. So without further ado let’s get on with the Author Spotlight!

About the Author:

Hi I’m K.L Freeman I love science fiction fantasy and afro punk. I am currently submerged in my second novel in a series called Ara. Book one Ara protector of Therah was published September 2019. My second book of the series Ara Peace of War will hopefully be finished by January 2021.I am crazy in love with nature and all its wonders it inspired me to create an entire planet with its own eco system and its considered a Symbiant planet. So all in all I’m a huge sci-fi nerd who loves to read, watch and write sci fi.

What and when started your love for writing?

My mother used writing as a form of discipline. She would have me write apologies to teachers or her or friends when I had misbehaved the usual kid stuff but her choice of discipline was writting. She loved writting poems as well. She would write sweet poems to me I would write sweet poems to her. Then she wrote a science fiction novel when I was a freshmen in high-school.I started to get more interested in it as well. I wrote short stories for English lit. I loved all writting projects in school and my teachers enjoyed them as well. My grammar however always fell short of good. L.o.l I still have issues with this and its one of my struggles as a writter. So I would say weitting has always been a form to express myself and to use my imagination to create.

Of all of the book genres, what drew you to write about yours?

I started reading other science fiction and thriller mystery books like Nora roberts Shelter In Place. I absolutely love Elizabeth George The Edge of Nowhere, The edge of Water, The Edge of The Light. These books touched my soul and inspired me to keep going in my book series. So I’d say Science Fiction is my passion.

What is your favorite season (winter, spring, etc.) and why?

My favorite seasons are spring and fall. I love spring its a new beginning for everything. Nature is the #1 inspiration for my creating an entire planet that communicates with its inhabitants. I feel nature communicates with us and each season speaks a different language. Spring is warm and full of sweetness and makes me feel all warm and lovely inside. L.O.L

What is your favorite part to write of a story?

Thats a very hard question I like writtig the epic character back stories the flash backs that made them who they are but then I love the end as well. This is so weird but the end is so fun and its the most difficult for me too. But for me the end isn’t really the end its the start of the rest of the journey for the characters living in my stories. They have accomplished or not what the entire journey was about and now they are a changed person for the better of for the worse. They now have to make a decision on how things will go on for the next part.

If you could meet your favorite author who would it be and why?

It’s weird but if I could meet my favorite author it would actually be The Famous BBC screen play writter Chris Chinball the creator and writer of Doctor Who. I know this is not strictly Book writting but his character The Doctor is absolutely wonderful in the depth of diversity he has created within him. Also the aliens and planets are completely amazing.

I know there are many writers that teamed up to create the episodes but Chris is the creator. If I had to strictly chose an author it would be Elizabeth George. For her amazing creative mind in the Edge of Nowhere I related to the main character and some of the struggles her and her mother had faced. I appreciated the way she created a kind of alien world feel on earth and made me feel like I was standing in the deep forest with the main character and riding the bike she had to ride to get around the town. The way she uses words is inspiring. I want to write like her some day really take my readers away and make them experience what my characters experience.

What makes your book(s) special?

My books are different in that I have created an alien planet that well it doesn’t exist anywhere else in the world of books as far as I know. I have taken the fantasy world creatures like fairies and mermaids and given them a new name and a new purpose like no other I challenged myself in trying to create a world where it looks as if magic is there but its simply fact of life a way of life, science, nature. I beleive that you can have  creatures such as this without magic you can telepathic abilities and the powers be a simple way of life something not viewed as a super power because everyone possesses it and it is just a way to communicate. This is a world of amazing creatures that all live with extraordinary abilities and interesting physical inhancements but they exist in harmony. I create a world where humans today can relate to these beautiful aliens that resemble Africans and Indian people. I use African and Indian culture to inspire the way my aliens look and how they live and what kind of homes they live in.

So…what are you working on now?

I’m currently trying to finish the second book to my series its called Ara Peace of War im hoping to finish it by January 2021 and have it published by March of 2021.
