Hello everyone! Welcome to another author spotlight! These will be posts where I discuss and showcase, predominantly women and people of color, their writing talents and published works. So without further ado let’s get on with the Author Spotlight!
Meet the Author!
Betty Pinckney is a native of Philadelphia and author of two books. Her first book is an adaptation from a two part stage play she wrote called, “If Walls Could Talk, They Would Tell Secrets.” A book about revealing family secrets. Her second book is a crime suspense story called, “Only You.” A book about a beautiful bestseller romance author who writes romance stories everyone dreams about, but what she doesn’t know is someone out there thinks her romance stories are about him and her. Betty is also a playwright, song writer, and screenwriter.
What and when started your love for writing?
My story is quite different from many authors. I never had a love for writing. I never wrote in journals or jotted stories down. Actually, math was my favorite subject. I kind of stumbled into writing when I was working with the youth at my church. A dear friend wanted to do a Christmas skit and asked me to write it. Reluctantly, I said yes, and that was the beginning of me discovering that writing is what I am supposed to be doing. I am called to it, and now writing is who I am. That was 13 years ago, and I am still writing.
Of all of the book genres, what drew you to write about yours?
My first book, is an adaptation from a two part play I wrote called, “If walls could talk, They would tell secrets.” It’s a drama story about family secrets. I am drawn to drama stories because I believe they show us human beings at their best, their worst, and everything in-between. They are stories with real life situations. I want to give people hope that they can make it despite what they are going through or have gone through.
My second book is a suspense. Believe it or not, Covid 19 drew me to this story. My stage play was canceled, and the thought of stalking came to me, so I decided that since I couldn’t give my followers a play, I would write a book to keep them occupied while being quarantined in the house.
If you could meet your favorite author who would it be and why?
I would love to have met Maya Angelo because everything she wrote was inspiring. Her books, poems, and quotes moved you to do, think, and be better. That’s my goal as a writer. My logo is IWP which means “Inspire with a pen.” I too want to inspire people to be better in life with my books, plays, and films.
What makes your book(s) special?
I believe what makes my writing special is my passion to give people hope. My stories are real life stories with real life situations, but I give answers through the word of God. Answers that deals with the root of problems and brings healing and deliverance from the problem. I show in my writing that every problem has a root, and we have to get to it, find where the pain originated, and then be healed from it.
So…what are you working on now?
I am currently working on filming my first feature film which is from my latest book, “Only You.” I am really excited about it and I am looking forward to having it done by the end of this year.
