About the Author:
PoetRaeMonet, born Rheadrea’ (Rae-dree-uh) Monet, DC native and author of ‘The Birds, the Bees, and the Boudoir,’ delivers bold and empowering erotic poems to address the blatant lack of sexual education in America. Writing is just one of the myriad talents this Renaissance woman possesses. Rae currently has 6 books available on Amazon.
She produces artwork, candles, live events and seminars as well.
She even runs a writer’s group; helping other erotic authors get published. And she does all of this while raising an energetic toddler. PoetRaeMonet’s tireless efforts to educate and enlighten the community has gained her the title. PoetRaeMonet and is looking forward to releasing MANY more projects, including more paperback/ e-books, spoken word CD’s, audiobooks, workbooks, seminars, and events.
What and when started your love for writing?
I was a victim of childhood sexual assault who learned about poetry in school. Writing was not only a therapeutic outlet for me, but it also gave me the ability to help others. Through my books, “The Birds, the Bees, and the Boudoir” and “The Bedroom Companion,” I am able to help tons of people connect with their feelings about their sexuality.
And with my new release “Expose your Inner DIVA,” I am able to assist even more. This workbook helps my readers to intimately interview themselves, not only giving them insight and clarity, but helps to work through whatever traumas may exist in their sexual history. (I also suggest they use my workbook in conjunction with a professional therapist.)
Of all of the book genres, what drew you to write about yours?
Poetry is the most attractive genre to me because I can say exactly what I want, in the way I want to say it. I can be as creative and abstract as I’d like or I can be tactile and concrete. I have all of the creative freedom in the world. Poetry also lends itself to performance and I am no stranger to the audience. You will often find me performing at different events and shows all over. And because Poetry is so versatile, I am able to produce e-books, audio books, artwork, spoken word albums, visual performances, and even seminars.…all based off of my poetry! It truly is an incredible genre.
What is your favorite part of the Holiday season?
Well Valentine’s is approaching, and this year I’ll be celebrating by hosting an event! It’s called PoetRaeMonet Presents…For Couples Only! It’s a show and a seminar all rolled into one! We bring in poets, comedians, burlesque dancers, and musicians. This year we have a sword swallower too! And in between all of the fun, we have professional Sexperts come in and teach the couples about our chosen topics: Intro to Toys, Intro to Orgasms, and Intro to Edging! It’s an amazing way to connect with your partner while learning about the bedroom techniques you both desire! I’m really blessed that Poetry and Authorship has afforded me the opportunity to work with amazing people like Niqui, formerly of the Comfort Zone, and James Peteet from Couple Up Card Game. What is your favorite part to write of a story?
My 5th book, Chasing A.D.A.M. is my lone novel. (For now.) It’s my first published novel, but long from the first one I’ve written. (I used to dabble in fiction in my youth.) The best parts of writing a story are the tiny details and the sexy bits (of course). By tiny details, I mean describing something so entirely that there is no mistaking what it could be. Really engaging all five senses from the reader to create a full picture of the experience. It’s actually the same with the sexy parts. And my poetry, now that I think about it.
I really try to do everything I can to pull my readers into my world. I could say, “She was sad.” Or I could say, “The tears welled in her eyes as she stood shivering on the corner looking up at his window, Jazz blaring on the radio and Jack Daniels wafting through the air, watching him touch her as if she belonged there.” That second sentence gives you emotion, taste, touch, scent, sight, and sound. Hell, it tells you the weather. So, I guess my answer is description. Lol. The best part about writing is the descriptions.
If you could meet your favorite author who would it be and why?
I REALLY want to meet Nikki Giovanni. She’s my favorite poet, hands down. She is my bucket list person. And given the events of 2020, I think now’s a good time to put that dream into motion. I would also really love to meet Saul Williams given my current place in my career. He’s very eccentric and does a lot of out-of-the-box work and I’d love to get into his brain concerning a few key ideas. And finally Jessica Holter, the creator of the Punany Poets! She is literally the reason why I have my career today. If it wasn’t for her, I would have never known that writing erotic poetry, making my living from writing erotica, was an option.
What makes your book(s) special?
Wow. Now, that’s a question. I think my books are special because they allow people to think about and discuss the taboo things. My writing makes it okay to explore yourself and your personal desires. My books are safe spaces. I think that I give my readers full permission to feel whatever they want to feel. They don’t have to escape from the world, they can escape into themselves. Each of my poetry books also gives the readers an update on my life, so that they know who I am and can feel connected with me too. The most special moment is when a reader comes back to me with a review. I once had a mom give my book, “The Birds, the Bees, and the Boudoir,” to her 15-year-old and she nearly cried telling me about the impact it had on them both. It’s that feeling, the change or bolstering of your sexual identity, that’s so critical. While you’re reading my books, you’ll question yourself. Hopefully by the end, you’ll have more answers than questions.
