Win's Books Author Spotlight

Hello everyone! We are back on Win’s Books blogs for November, kicking if off with another author spotlight! These will be posts where I discuss and showcase, predominantly women and people of color, their writing talents and published works. So without further ado let’s get on with the Author Spotlight!

Meet the Author!

Mystkue, pronounced mystique, just as the name defines, power and mystery are exuded in her tone and the overall aura of the up and coming author. A native of Philadelphia, Mystkue began her journey of writing odes to love and sensual romance stories at the age of 14. Her characters portray such in-depth intrapersonal relationships with themselves that they connect their experiences with each and every one of her readers.

What and when started your love for writing?

My emotional psyche was the beginning of my writing career. I found that writing was my escape from the world as well as a healthy way for me to analyze and evaluate different experiences in my life. I always enjoyed connecting with others via wordplay.

Of all of the book genres, what drew you to write about yours?

As an aspiring sex educator and a hopeless romantic, erotica and romance drew me in because I was able to connect or fantasize about the situations or experiences the characters would have as if they were my own. Erotica, romance, and poetry have a way of presenting vivid imagery in my mind.

If you could meet your favorite author who would it be and why?

Zora Neale Hurston

If I could meet my favorite author it would be Zane and Zora Neale Hurston. I would pick their brain on their creative process and how they go about character development as many of their characters in their works often have very complex backgrounds.

How has being a woman/ person of color impacted what you write?

Being a woman/person of color has impacted what I write because it is the core of my writing. It is the seed that blossoms into the work. My experiences as a black woman and what I deal with on a daily basis in reference to my self-identity, personal and professional growth, and even how society views me or the expectations of a young black woman scope my tone, purpose, and intent.

What makes your book(s) special?

My ability to create camaraderie between my characters and my readers to make my readers feel connected to the characters in a way that is innate to the them. I also tend to write from the character’s internal perspective so that the story is revealed to the reader from a third person omniscient perspective. I make each character’s personality unique to their circumstances.

So…what are you working on now?

Currently, I am working to transition as a full-time writer. I am working as a content writer for a literary organization and writing the sequel to my first novel, Honesty Carries Wisdom, and a short read that will be part of an anthology.
