Homeopath. Novelist. Storyteller at heart.

Welcome back to the Spotlight. Think of this not as an interview, but as a luminous drift into the mind of a writer who finds magic in silence and stories in everyday chaos.

Dr. Aparna Salvi Nagda

Aparna is a consulting homeopath in Mumbai, where she balances the rigour of medicine with the tenderness of storytelling. Her fiction and essays have appeared in multiple anthologies, including international collections by NYU, and her debut novel, The Labyrinth of Silence, is published by Vishwakarma Publications. She has also written the novella Not So Grave and contributed to the short story collection La Javvaab Pizza.

Beyond the page, Aparna teaches biology and co-runs Genius Academy, a coaching class in Dombivli, India. When she’s not toggling between stethoscopes and story ideas, you’ll find her volunteering with the Goonj Foundation, quietly weaving service into the narrative of her everyday life.

How did your writing journey start?

Writing and reading has always been a part of me since I could hold a pencil and notebook in hand and write coherent sentences. From writing letters to friends on their birthdays to publishing my first book, I don’t remember exactly how all of this started. But, yes, I disciplined my writing during the pandemic. That could be called as the beginning of fiction writing.

What inspired your latest novel?

The chaos around me inspired me to write on silence.

Can you share a moment where you felt stuck?

My book, The Labyrinth of Silence is divided into three halves. After I wrote the second half, I felt blocked as that was the story of a man who was depressed and deceived in life. The next half was happy and hopeful. To move from sad to happy, I felt stuck. Isn’t it the same with life as well?

How do you immerse yourself in your writing?

I don’t have to forcefully immerse myself into my writing. When the muse is in a mood to tell a story, it pulls me in its arms and whispers the words. It is then an irresistible affair.

What techniques do you use to ensure the story resonates?

I pick real life incidents and then weave them into a story. The reader must feel, ‘Hey, she is telling my story!’

If you could drift to any literary world, which would you choose?

Wow!! I love this question. If I could escape into a literary, it would be that of science and fantasy where faeries have magical powers yet there is a scientific base to it.

So… what are you working on now?

Once a novelist, always a novelist. I’m working on my next novel which is again contemporary fiction and based on a social cause. I’m midway through it.
